Innovation is essential to meeting the demands of the future, and collaboration is a key ingredient in making it happen. At the GDST, our cross-Trust communities of professional learners are central to our ambition to remain leaders in girls’ education.
We are now inviting applications for the next cohort of Trust Consultant Teachers (TCTs). These roles offer exceptional practitioners the opportunity to influence practice beyond their own classroom, shape cross-Trust professional learning, and contribute directly to the GDST vision.
TCTs act as far more than convenors. They motivate and influence staff and students across the network to collaborate meaningfully and effectively. Whether through GDST Learn events, cross-phase networks, resource-sharing initiatives, specialist development sessions, student opportunities, or expert consultancy, TCTs help drive a culture of curiosity, innovation, and excellence.
The Trust Consultant roles are also a tangible benefit of being part of the GDST: they offer a clear, attainable pathway for career progression, enabling more colleagues to connect across the network and contribute to our collective success.
The Role
As part of the central Innovation and Learning Team, Trust Consultants work to:
• Help every school be excellent in its own right
• Help every school optimise the advantages of being part of the GDST network
They do this by providing expert guidance, leading research-engaged practice, delivering staff training, and creating inspiring student events. Each TCT brings their specialist expertise to shape and lead network activity, support schools, and amplify the very best of GDST practice.
Training and Development
TCTs are trained in a user-centred, solutions-driven approach inspired by Design Thinking. This human-centred methodology underpins their work and ensures they focus on the “right problems to solve” by remaining closely connected to the needs and experiences of colleagues across the GDST.
Appointment, Duration and Time Allocation
TCT roles are tenured posts, usually running for two to four years, with appointments typically made before Easter for a September start.
TCTs remain based in their school and carry out up to one day per week of cross-Trust work. The exact time allocation (usually around 10–20% of the working week) will be agreed between the successful candidate, their Head, and the Innovation and Learning Team, ensuring the role can be delivered effectively with minimal disruption to school commitments.
TCT contracts are paid separately at the agreed TCT pro-rata rate and funded by the Innovation and Learning Department. At the end of the tenure, colleagues return fully to their substantive role.
Likely Areas of Focus
We are recruiting for TCTs in four specialist areas:
STEM
• Champion excellence and innovation in STEM across the GDST
• Support and scale pioneering pedagogical approaches
• Strengthen the Trust’s external reputation as a leader in STEM education
• Drive sustained improvement in outcomes and pathways into STEM careers
Humanities
• Lead curriculum innovation and cross-Trust collaboration in Humanities
• Advance inclusion, representation, and curriculum development
• Strengthen outcomes and student destinations
• Work with national partners and initiatives to broaden opportunity
Sport
• Promote lifelong health, wellbeing and leadership across the GDST
• Shape GDST Select and other flagship programmes
• Support the Sports Matters Committee and wider events programme
• Lead dynamic, inclusive events and rallies across the Trust
Equality, Diversity & Inclusion (EDI)
• Design and deliver impactful staff development and training
• Embed inclusive practice and curriculum innovation
• Monitor and evaluate EDI strategies
• Lead inspirational student events that celebrate diversity and promote equity

Please note, our academies and fee-paying schools are legally separate employers with different pay frameworks, pension schemes and contractual arrangements. Unfortunately, because of these structural differences, the Trust Consultant model only applies within the fee-paying school employment framework and can’t currently be transferred across to the academies.
