Teacher of Economics
Hours: Full time
Contract: Permanent
Salary: Competitive salary plus benefits
Required from: September 2026
The role
South Hampstead High School is looking for a committed and energetic teacher, with a strong track record of excellent teaching to join our lively Economics department on a permanent basis.
As a Teacher of Economics, you will plan, prepare and deliver challenging, well-organised and stimulating A-Level Economics lessons to students in Years 12 and 13, using a range of teaching strategies and resources to meet pupils’ academic needs and expectations.
We are looking for a skilled practitioner with a passion for Economics, who is looking to further their career in one of London's leading independent schools. You will either be an experienced teacher with a proven track record, or a well-qualified ECT/graduate looking to begin your career in teaching.
The Economics Department
Economics teaching at South Hampstead reflects the dynamic nature of the subject. The use of news stories and real time data is encouraged to build pupil interest and allow them to see real world impacts of economic theory. Extension and enrichment are key to the success of the department, which runs timetabled enrichment courses and lunchtime extension sessions designed to push the large number of students who consider the subject for further study. During the summer term of Year 12, this intensifies as we prepare Oxbridge applicants. This year we had 2 students accepted to interview with one obtaining a place.
As part of our broader provision, we encourage students to participate in initiatives such as the GAIN Stock Pitch Challenge, the IEA Budget Challenge and the LEAD programme in partnership with the London School of Economics, as well as to push themselves through a variety of essay competitions.
