SEND Teaching Assistant

Required from: May 2026

Contract term: Fixed term

Hours: Part-time 21.6 hours per week, Monday, Tuesday and Friday, term time only

Salary: FTE £30,291 (pro-rata actual salary £14,491) per annum

The role:

Blackheath High School is seeking a compassionate and proactive 1:1 Teaching Assistant to provide dedicated support to a student with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD).

You will help the student to manage emotional regulation, executive functioning and transitions throughout the school day, fostering their independence and supporting their well-being in both academic and social environments.

Working closely with teaching staff, the SENCo, parents, therapists, and external agencies, you will help ensure that the student receives consistent and appropriate support that allows them to thrive. Regular monitoring and reporting on the student’s progress, wellbeing, and engagement will be a key aspect of the role.

This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference in a young person’s life as they navigate the challenges of senior school.

About you

We are looking for an empathetic, patient, and resilient individual with a strong commitment to inclusion and child-centred support. You will have previous experience of working with children or young people with Autism and/or ADHD, along with a solid understanding of self-regulation strategies and/or training in related approaches (e.g. Zones of Regulation, sensory integration, and CBT-informed approaches).

About the School

Founded in 1880 by the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST), the UK’s leading network of independent girls’ schools, Blackheath High School is a selective school for girls aged 3–18. We are fortunate to be located on the edge of the stunning Heath and within easy reach of historic Greenwich and Canary Wharf. Following an £18 million investment, our new Senior School has been redeveloped to provide state-of-the-art facilities to ensure that our school environment matches the excellent standard of education we provide.

There are many good reasons to work with us. Blackheath High School has a real sense of community, and you’ll be part of it. You’ll be part, too, of the wider GDST family and you’ll be in the company of some of the best and brightest people in independent education. We also offer a variety of benefits, such as:

• Competitive salaries and pay progression

• Access to extensive professional development opportunities

• Training grants for qualifications

• Generous pension schemes

• Free life assurance benefit

• A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools

• Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans

• Employee Assistance Programme
