Job Title: Lower School Class Teacher‌ (maternity leave)

Location: London‌

The role:

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, creative and dedicated full-time Class Teacher to join our Lower School team on a maternity cover basis from September 2026.

The successful candidate will teach either a Reception or Year 1 class, depending on experience and school need.

Our Reception and Year 1 team work collaboratively to plan engaging and inspiring learning experiences within flexible and innovative teaching spaces. We believe young children learn best through play, exploration and meaningful interactions. By combining high expectations with a nurturing, child-centred approach, we create a happy and supportive environment in which girls develop confidence, curiosity and independence from the very beginning of their school journey.

This role would suit an excellent classroom practitioner who brings energy, warmth and imagination to the classroom and who is passionate about supporting young children at this important stage of their learning journey.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Is an excellent classroom practitioner with strong subject and curriculum knowledge
  • Has experience teaching within EYFS or Key Stage 1
  • Understands the importance of nurturing confidence, independence and curiosity in young learners
  • Builds positive and supportive relationships with pupils, colleagues and parents
  • Brings enthusiasm, warmth and a sense of humour to school life
  • Has high expectations of pupils’ achievement and behaviour
  • Enjoys working collaboratively as part of a team
  • Is committed to the wider pastoral and co-curricular life of the school

All GDST Staff are expected to:

  • Put the safety and wellbeing of pupils at the heart of everything they do.
  • Contribute to the Trust’s vision and strategic priorities.
  • Follow our policies on health, safety and diversity, creating a safe, fair and inclusive environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism in conduct, attendance and relationships with colleagues and external contacts.
  • Take responsibility for their own development, engaging in training and performance review.
  • Work collaboratively across the Trust, sharing good practice and supporting others.

This job description is not an exhaustive list, and you will be expected to carry out any other reasonable tasks as directed by your line manager.
