The North East’s leading independent girls’ day school Newcastle High School for Girls is seeking an enthusiastic and visionary Head of Art to lead our vibrant and highly successful Art Department. We want our teaching staff to have high expectations of children and young people, including a commitment to ensuring that they can achieve their full educational potential. Establishing fair, respectful, trusting, supportive and constructive relationships with all students is part of the ethos within our thriving school. The successful candidate should have a secure knowledge, understanding and experience of both GCSE and A-Level Art and Textiles.

The department offers Fine Art (including ceramics), Textiles and Graphics, each housed in its own dedicated studio and delivered to an exceptional standard, with excellent results at GCSE and A Level. Art plays a central role in school life, with pupils’ work celebrated through regular exhibitions and our annual Fashion Show.

The successful candidate will provide strategic and creative leadership, inspire pupils across the Senior School and lead a team of specialist teachers in delivering an ambitious and engaging curriculum. This role is ideal for an outstanding practitioner with a clear vision for Art education in an independent school setting and the ability to inspire both pupils and colleagues.

We offer small class sizes, exceptional facilities and a supportive, close-knit school community that values creativity and artistic excellence.

This is an exceptional opportunity for an inspiring teacher and creative leader to influence the school’s artistic vision and motivate pupils across all year groups in our Senior School.
