The Role

We are looking to appoint a dynamic and enthusiastic Sport Assistant to join our vibrant PE department at Nottingham Girls’ High School for the 2025 academic year. This position would suit an undergraduate part way through a sports science degree course, or similar, who is looking to secure a placement year.

As part of this placement, you’ll be given tasks directly relevant to your field of study, allowing you to apply your academic knowledge in a practical setting. You’ll receive support, guidance, and constructive feedback from experienced staff to help you navigate the workplace, develop your professional skills, and grow in confidence. We’ll clearly outline what is expected of you and what you need to achieve during your time with us. This role offers a valuable opportunity to build your skillset, broaden your experience, and gain insight into a career in sport, education, or youth development.

Why Join Us?

At Nottingham Girls’ High School, we pride ourselves on fostering an inclusive, diverse, and supportive community where staff and students thrive. Located next to the beautiful Nottingham Arboretum and with excellent transport links (including a nearby tram stop), the school offers an inspiring and accessible environment. Staff also benefit from access to our on-site gym and wellness initiatives.

What You’ll Be Doing:

• Assisting in the delivery of a wide-ranging PE curriculum, including gymnastics, football, hockey, netball, tennis, and cricket.

• Coaching and officiating school sports teams, including fixtures at home, away, and occasionally on weekends.

• Supporting practical PE lessons and outdoor learning in both the Senior and Junior schools.

• Helping with PE department admin and contributing to the organisation of sports events.

• Promoting an inclusive and positive sporting culture throughout the school.

What We’re Looking For:

• Experience teaching or coaching sport, especially with children.

• Strong leadership and coaching skills.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.

• Confident with Microsoft Office and Google applications.

• Proactive, organised, and a great team player.

• Flexibility to support school fixtures, including some evenings and weekends.

Ideally, you will have:

• Umpiring or coaching qualifications (e.g. in netball, football, hockey, cricket, athletics, or tennis).

• Specialism in football or hockey.

• A positive attitude towards professional development (e.g. First Aid training).

How to Apply:

Submit your online application with a supporting statement outlining how your qualifications and experience match the person specification.  We reserve the right to close early should we receive sufficient applications.

Interviews: Between 8 - 16 May

Start Date: 1 September 2025 for one academic year.

Contract: One-Year Fixed-Term Contract | Full-time | Term-Time Only
