Nottingham Girls High School seeks an outstanding and entrepreneurial musician to join our thriving music department in a unique hybrid role combining instrumental teaching and ensemble leadership.
This exciting position offers the opportunity to develop a centre of excellence in saxophone and clarinet tuition while leading and inspiring our swing band and single reed ensembles.
About You
We are looking for a dynamic, enthusiastic and highly skilled musician who:
- Is an accomplished teacher of both saxophone and clarinet.
- Has a proven ability to lead bands and ensembles to a high standard.
- Is motivated to recruit, develop and retain pupils.
- Can establish and sustain a reputation for excellence in woodwind performance.
- Brings energy, creativity and strong organisational skills.
- Has the ability to arrange music and/or accompany performers (highly desirable).
- Is passionate about developing young musicians through both individual tuition and ensemble performance.
The successful candidate will hold two concurrent appointments during term time:
Swing & Concert Band Leader (Part-Time Contract) to:
- Lead and direct our swing band and single reed ensemble.
- Rehearse and prepare ensembles for performances and school events.
- Currently approximately 4–5 hours per week, term-time only.
- Opportunity for the role to expand in line with pupil demand and programme growth.
Peripatetic Instrumental Teacher (Self-Employed Agreement) to:
- Develop and grow a private teaching practice in saxophone and clarinet.
- Deliver three blocks of ten weeks' tuition across the academic year.
- Build and maintain pupil numbers through active recruitment and promotion.
- Inspire pupils of all abilities and foster a culture of musical excellence.
