The Role:

We are looking for a PE Teacher with a specialism in netball to join Howell’s Sports Department on a fixed term basis from September 2024. The contract term is anticipated to be one year.

The successful applicant will:

• Have experience teaching PE to KS5 (not exam classes), and be willing to teach Nursery. 

• Have a proven track record of delivering a high standard of netball coaching, including leading netball across age ranges 11-18.

• Be able to demonstrate high standards of preparation, organisation and delivery of developing students/ young people.

• Attend fixtures and GDST sports rallies.

• Demonstrate enthusiasm and competence by a lively and engaging teaching style and active participation in the extra-curricular activities of the department.

The Department:

The Sports Department is well equipped with facilities such as a swimming pool, sports hall, fitness suite, artificial hockey pitch, grass pitches and hard courts. In addition, there is a glass-fronted pavilion that houses the PE office and an open space used for post-match refreshments, yoga and dance sessions. We are a dynamic and forward-looking department which is firmly committed to instilling positive lifelong experiences of sport and physical education. We now deliver GCSE and A-Level PE alongside developing some sports teams that are highly successful across Wales and the GDST. We set high expectations for all learners to help them achieve their potential.

The department teach PE across the whole school, from Nursery to Year 13. The Early Years programme focuses on physical literacy, with a move towards a games and creative curriculum in KS2. KS3 and KS4 lessons are heavily focused on participation, allowing the students to choose their PE pathway, whether it is centred on games, creativity or fitness for life.

About the School:

Howell’s School, Llandaff, is one of the oldest girls’ school in Wales, having opened in August 1860. Since then, it has steadily expanded, both in terms of student numbers and physical size. The school now caters for girls from the age of 3 to 16 and girls and boys 16-18. Since 1980 it has been a member of the Girls’ Day School Trust, the largest organisation of independent schools in the UK. Its 26 member schools all have a reputation for consistently high academic standards, superb pastoral support and enviable extra-curricular programmes.
